Should I quit Affiliate Marketing?

Mar 29 2010 Published by Parth under Affiliate Marketing

I’m about ready to put March behind me and get ready for April. This past week has been rough with the sales, but last week, I finally passed $300 WITHOUT a major product launch.

This is $300, minus refunds. So, it’s a pretty big deal for me:

Picture 2So far, I’ve done $862.52 this month. I will probably break $900 for the month. Enough to pay the bills.

Lets break this down:

  • In January, I did almost $500
  • In February, I did about $2000, but minus the launch, I did $700
  • In March, I’m about to do around $900

I was thinking of walking away and letting the site just run on its own. If I simply add 1-2 products per month. Write a review and a few articles, then I can expect to make an additional $200-$300 per month without a major launch.

If I just walk away right now, the site still earn me around $700-$1000 per month – enough to pay the bills. I might even see some growth, just from people searching and landing on articles that are ranked good in search.

I was running this through my cousin and he said I should stick to it just a little bit longer. Now’s the time to push through and really work hard.

Not really sure what to do. Any suggestions?

When to Ditch a ClickBank Product

Mar 23 2010 Published by Parth under Affiliate Marketing

This is a common question amongst newbies. Well, let me share with you some stats:

January 2010

  • Best Converting Product: 19/1 (improved to 6/1 in February)
  • Worst Converting Product: 152/1 (improved to 71/1 in February

February 2010

  • Best Converting Product: 6/1 (no sales in March)
  • Worst Converting Product: 74/1 (improved to 15/1 in March)

March 2010

  • Best Converting Product: 2 products at 12/1 (Brand New Product Added)
  • Worst Converting Product: 78/1 (Brand New Product Added)

From these stats you can see that I’m pretty good at increasing conversions. I actually stopped working on my top converting product because the product was extremely cheap, compared to other, less converting products.

So, if you’re looking for a point of reference for deciding when to abandon a product, then here are some good guidelines:

  • If you don’t get a sale after 100 hops, then take a look at where the traffic is coming from.
    • For example, if you’re selling a product that teaches people HTML and PHP coding, then sending traffic to the sales page of people who are interested in general computer languages would be useless.
    • You want to instead focus on beginners. Start a blog offering free advice on creating your own website from scratch (obviously, you should know what you’re talking about). Then link out to a review page, or directly to the sales page at the end of each blog post.
    • Use the SEO tip I showed you in my free ebook to create your content. Submit the content to ezinearticles.com and link back to a review page. See what happens.
  • If you still don’t get a sale after 100 hops, then create a bonus. Prominently talk about the bonus in your review page. Make an announcement on your blog.
  • If you still don’t get a sale after 100 hops, conduct an interview with the author. Post this interview on your blog. Submit it to ezine articles. Submit it to social media websites related to the niche you are in.

After 300 Hops, if you see 0 sales after all this work, THEN abandon the product and move on. Learn from your mistakes. Swallow your losses, and move on.

On the flip side, if you’re converting at 300/1, and making around $30 per sale, then I think it’s a good idea to keep the product on your blog. Just leave it there. Don’t promote it anymore. If you get 3-4 sales a month, that’s still $120 in your pocket.

What are your thoughts? Is this a good guideline to use when deciding whether or not to abandon a product? Please post your answers to comments.

My Sales Streak Ended!

Mar 21 2010 Published by Parth under Affiliate Marketing

I was having a nice run. For 8 days straight, I earned atleast $31:

Picture 1I’ve done $728.17 this month. If I want to hit my target of $2500, then I need to do $1771.83. I have 11 days to do it. I need to earn around $161 per day. My strategy will be to send more traffic to two high-end products.

On Thursday, March 17, I made a sale of a product that made me $119, and another one that made me $52. The $52 product’s price just went up by $20, so now I’ll be earning $65 per sale of that product.

I doubt I’ll be able to make at least one sale of each product every single day. But 4-5 sales per month of each product would raise my overall results. Next week, there a pretty good promo coming out that should also help me increase my earnings.

How am I going to send more traffic to these pages? Really simple. I’m going to write 10 high quality articles around the products. I’ll post these articles on my site, and on ezinearticles.com

Pretty simple strategy. Lets see what happens!

Time to take the Next Step

Mar 18 2010 Published by Parth under Daily Reflection

Living at home has given me a sense of security. When you look back, my life really hasn’t been that hard at all. I don’t really do anything all day except eat, watch Hulu, work on my site, think about life, and do a few chores around the house.

That’s what I do. That’s my life. On one hand, it’s good. On the other hand it’s not. I’m certainly not living up to my fullest potential. I’ve achieved a decent level of success. I’m getting closer towards my dreams.

But that final push needs to come from a leap of faith…in myself. I do believe in myself. But must absolutely, 100% trust myself in order to take this next step.

I’ve LET things happen to me. I let my father buy me a car. I let him pay for all my loans and bills and what not. Well, not anymore. I mean, I know he loves me.

But sooner or later I will have to stand up on my own. And that final stand must come through words. Through actions. I can’t just sit here and think anymore.

I need to tell him what’s on my mind. What my life goals are. What my plans are. And it’s going to be today, March 18, 2010. Wish me luck.

The Idiot’s Guide to Choosing Clickbank Products

Mar 15 2010 Published by Parth under Affiliate Marketing

I’m extremely glad that I’m a health and fitness blogger. It’s something I’m interested in and keeps me motivated to keep going.

When most people see a whole bunch of zeros in their Clickbank account, they start to panic. They get depressed and then they start blaming others, such as Clickbank for not being successful.

Zero days are part of the game. That’s why it’s important to look at your results on a month by month basis, rather than a day to day business.

Lets take a look at some recent results, and compare it to what I’ve done in the past. Then I’ll show you exactly how to choose clickbank products.

Picture 2As you can see, I had 3 days of no sales, followed by 3 days of great sales. Last week, I couldn’t break $100. This week, I’m closing in on $200.

That’s just the way things work, and you have to get used to it. Take a look at this chart:

Picture 3

This month’s goal is $2500. Last month, my daily average was $73.98 (sorry, the headings are cut off). January 2010’s Daily average was $15.73.

So, I’m doing better than January 2010, in terms of daily sales. And I’m only around $100 from beating January’s numbers.

I still have 17 days to go for this month. On top of that, there is a Product Launch and a huge promo going down this week.

So, this week seems very promising. In the last product launch, I did around $1400, as you can see from the first screenshot above.

I’m hoping to break past that. Worst-case, I’ll earn $500 from the launch. Launches are usually very lucrative.

Finally, lets compare my results from last year:

Picture 4

I have already blown past last years results! Woops, I forgot to update this month’s numbers. Anyways, you get the point.

Last month, I did 2087% better than last year. And last year I was just playing around with Clickbank and was still able to do close to $100 in a month.

So I don’t get why people are going around they can’t make a single dime from Clickbank even though they’ve been at it for 2 months.

You know what, I know why. And this is the Idiot’s Tip to Choosing Clickbank Products: START WITH SOMETHING YOU’RE INTERESTED IN.

Lets just assume music is a “profitable niche.” But, I would not to good in this niche simply because I don’t know anything about it.

Even though I’m a great writer, there is no way I can fake it! I can’t write content about music and make it sound believable, not matter how much research I do.

But the most important thing is this: I won’t be motivated enough to actually work hard in order to achieve my financial goals because I’m not enjoying the niche I’m in.

It’s as simple as that. So in your quest to success with Clickbank and choosing products, FIRST make sure you’re in a Niche you enjoy.

It’s as simple as that. I go more into finding new products to promote in my free eBook here.

3 Things I’m going to Change about Myself

Mar 11 2010 Published by Parth under Affiliate Marketing

Overall, a pretty crummy day today. But you know what, we all have our bad days. And it’s just best to put them behind us and move forward. Bad days can actually be seen as positives if we learn how to use them.

For example, today I was quite surprised by some negative comments. You should never completely ignore these comments, but you shouldn’t let them get to you either. Using these comments, I actually realized a couple of things I need to do:

1 – Focus on the Journey
I check my Clickbank statsĀ  and Email constantly. I need to stop doing that. I need to just focus on getting the work done and not worrying about the results every two seconds. That is why I’ve decided to check my CB stats once every 4 days, and check my email once a day.

This is more of a mental thing. But I think it’s also something that Tim Ferris keeps talking about. We get so caught up with the small things that we fail to look at the big picture. This new approach of focusing my results on a month to month basis as opposed to a day to day basis is already making a huge difference.

2 – Be Careful of What I Say

These negative comments were brought upon by what I said/did. Namely, people seem to have a negative reaction to my posting up my website video and offering a free eBook. I’m still not sure why this is the case.

But I certainly have realized one thing: I started promoting the eBook and website too early. I should have waited a few more months to make sure my sales were steady, then launched the eBook.

I let my excitement get the better of me. Well, I learned from it, and whatever I do in the future will be better thought out. And by the way, the online service was also extremely pre-mature. You see, I really want to get into the whole online consulting thing.

I think I’d be great at it! But first, I need to reach my goals first, before I try and help others. I should not try to market myself as an expert.

3 – Put in More Hours

Internet marketing is one of those things that even if you work harder and longer, you may not achieve greater success. However, working longer means that you get more work done overall. So, that’s what I’m going to do.

Now that I have a pretty good idea of the tasks that I need to perform, I need to focus on those things that are working – and do them more. I will be doing this simply by waking up an hour earlier, and sleeping an hour later.

This will give me 2 extra hours in the day to write some more articles, request more interviews, and review my landing pages.

Overall, I just need to be more resilient. As long as I’m being honest with myself, what other people say about me makes no difference.

With that said, one of my biggest goals right now is for me to move out of my house. This is absolutely crucial if I want to pursue screen writing and online consulting. But in order to do that, I need to hit a target of earning $5000 on a monthly basis.

I just constantly need to be reminded of how all my goals play out. One thing at a time. I’ve been focusing on to many things lately. One thing at a time.

Sales going South, but Still Optimistic

Mar 10 2010 Published by Parth under Affiliate Marketing

So, didn’t break $100 this week. Not a good start for the month, but it’s all good. One thing that I said I was going to do yesterday that I have not yet done is write a review for the Holy Grail eBook.

I’m getting lots of traffic for that keyword, and the time is perfect to build up a mailing list for the ebook, so that when the program is re-launched, I can make some real dough.

The plan is to write a review, collect emails at the end, then link back all the previous holy grail articles back to the review.I also need to modify the burn the fat review page so that it no longer tells people they’ll get the free bonus.

Next on the list is…you know how I keep talking about developing relationships with new vendors? Well, ok I never said it on the blog, but its in my new free ebook.

Well, I’ve been talking to this guy who has a great vertical jump product coming out. It’s his first product, but it looks really good and I’m super excited to promote it.

However, it’s not just the affiliate marketing I’m excited about. I’m excite because he’s planning on launching 1-2 more products this year. And I just threw it out there about wanting to be an affiliate manager.

You know where I’m going with this…I might just end up going from a regular affiliate marketer to an actual affiliate manager. That’s awesome!

I just sent an affiliate manager a question about what his responsibilities were. Thats another thing I’ve learned – don’t be afraid to send out emails – even to people who are super busy.

The worst thing they can do is not respond.

I still have to finish up the audio stuff with that other vendor interview. And I’m not sure how this DVD launch is going to turn out later this month.

I’ve only been able to capture 2 emails – well, technically these people did not confirm their subscription yet, so I don’t know. The PPC isn’t working, and my ezinearticles account has been suspended.

But, for some reason, I’m extremely optimistic. I don’t know. Maybe it’s just my personality.

Bad job at collecting emails

Mar 09 2010 Published by Parth under Affiliate Marketing

Sales have been pretty slow lately:

Picture 1Tomorrow’s the last day for this week. My weeks start each Wednesday. Anyways, I guess it’s just part of the process.

There’s a new product that’s about to launch that I actually already got credit for. The vendor was testing it out with his list, but a customer that purchased something through my site 5 days before purchased his new product, and I got credit for it.

This is a $197 product, with a split payment plan. So I’ll get $67 now, and $67 next month. This can be extremely lucrative for me. My goal is to get 50 sales during the promo/launch.

However, I need a new list. And in my attempt to build up a list, I blew $54 in adwords. Now, I know I’m not good at adwords, but $54 still seems a lot to me.

I’m going to keep at it, because the skills I learn today, the mistakes I make, will help me get better at this in the future. I’m going to drop the daily budget to $35 so that I don’t worry as much.

I was only able to capture one little measly email through all my troubles. But hey, every subscriber is valuable! (until he isn’t!).

Anyways, my other strategies to capture email include article marketing and blogging. That one email I captured was actually through a blog post.

I want to see how the articles perform once they’re approved (proly by tomorrow afternoon). I’m really not sure what else I could do. My main idea for this was that I could sent traffic to a squeeze page with blogging, article marketing and PPC and be able to capture 500 emails before the product launch.

1/100 conversion would give me around 50 sales. That would help me tremendously for two months. I already know of a good product launch coming in April, so I’m not too worried about April.

But I am worried about March. This first day with my new campaign was horrendous. I’ll think about this more later tonight, and see if my strategy needs changing by tomorrow morning. “Ill sleep on it”

Another product launch that I’m looking forward to is the Holy Grail eBook which was given away as a free bonus last week. The vendor will be relaunching this as a stand-alone eBook in about 2-3 months.

I’m guessing that means May/June. Hopefully in May, since then I’ll have another launch after the one in April to work on. However, I did not sell a single copy during the 3-day promo last week, so I’ll certainly have to build up another list for that particular product.

Good news is that I was able to get a copy of the eBook. So I can write a review and put it out on cyber space. I’m still getting a decent amount of search traffic for the Holy Grail keyword everyday.

I certainly need to take advantage of that.

Next on the list is my first phone interview I conducted with a vendor. She says her product is in a “Soft launch.” I have not made any sales with the product yet.

The thing with the interview is that I did not like the way I sounded over the phone. So I’m using another software to re-record my voice, and make the whole interview sound more genuine.

Seriously, I sounded HORRIBLE. I’m about 60% done with the audio, but it’s just one of those things that aren’t top priority now.

Anyways, there’s a TON to think about and do. I figured these were the top three news bits. More tomorrow!
